Dubu Muchim

dubu muchim

mmmmmmm…Korean tofu with red chili sauce.

This is a huge favorite at our house. It’s quick and spicy and yummy and requires no cooking and pretty healthy. As a main course, this serves 2 at about 320 calories per serving.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 tbsp gochujang
  • 1/2 tsp hon dashi
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup sesame seeds
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tsp minced ginger
  • 4 medium scallions, sliced
  • 16 oz tofu

Directions:

  1. Press tofu under weighted plate to drain for 30 minutes.
  2. Mix together gochujang, hon dashi, soy sauce, sesame oil, minced garlic and minced ginger.
  3. Slice tofu into bite sized pieces and pour sauce over the top.
  4. Finish by sprinkling sesame seeds and scallions.

to summarize

1. Daddy snuck in another old boys’ rugby game at the St. Patrick’s Day Tourney in Savannah. The fam hit the road at 5AM for an 8:00 game. Good times. The big boy was in heaven and ran and ran and ran all day.

bleached tees

bleached tees

Want an easy (cheap) 10 minute project? Grab a colored T-shirt, stencils or paper cut outs, 2 spray bottles, some bleach, and some vinegar. Lay your paper cut out or stencil on the tee, spray some bleach wait a bit until the shirt starts to lighten, spray some vinegar to neutralized the bleach, and peel off your design. It’s that easy.  If you want a very crisp design, like the lion, use some spray adhesive or a glue stick to affix your design before spraying. For the Flyers shirt I glued down the logo, sprayed some bleach and waited a bit, then peeled off the center circle and sprayed a bit more bleach there and quickly sprayed on the vinegar. Also, be forewarned that the bleaching may not show up until you add the vinegar. The black Flyers shirt started to discolor immediately, but the navy Lions and green Eagles shirts didn’t look like they were bleaching at all until I sprayed the vinegar. FWIW, these are Garanimals long sleeved T-shirts, $3 at Walmart.

babyproofing rocks!

cabinet.NEFSo, in anticipation of the little man learning to crawl, we moved our stemware from the el cheapo little (unlatch-able, unlock-able) floor cabinets where they’ve resided the past few years into this sweet new teak cabinet.

B and I found this piece at a local shop, A World Apart. It’s supposedly from early 1900s Dutch occupied Bali. Regardless, I love it. It’s teak and rustic and the color of the wood is fantastic against the saffron-y wall. Plus both the top and bottom portions have locks to keep kittens and children out. Well at least until they’re old enough to pour mummy a drink. The child, that is. The kittens still haven’t grown opposable thumbs and are therefore unable to carry a glass without spilling. Too bad on that.

cabinet_detail.NEFI’m soooo happy with it. And feel ridiculously grown up. It really opens up the tiny room and allows much easier access to our stemware. And we all know how important quick access to a wine glass is in my world.

Cheers!

roomba Jen + Robbie 4ever

I can no longer remember what life was like before I met Robbie.  I knew it was true love when he went beneath the sofa. My ex-vacuum never did that.

Robbie is a Roomba 550 that we purchased at Costco a few weeks ago. Our house has never (please, allow me to emphasize – NEVER) been so clean. After two sessions in each of our hardwood covered front rooms – living room, dining room, and kitchen – all of the kitten fur tumbleweeds were gone!

Now Robbie goes about his business sweeping each room (lighthouses are brilliant!) after we leave for work. He kindly returns to his home base and recharges until his next scheduled session.

I cannot express how completely and totally thrilled I am with my new love.

Thank you, iRobot, for giving me some extra time to spend with the original I, Robot.

happy anniversary to us…

Welcome to blogland, Paige!

My niece Paige has a great new blog! Stop by Paigey’s Place and say hi.

I don’t usually go for these things…

But, too funny (and accurate).

What American accent do you have?

Your Result: Philadelphia

Your accent is as Philadelphian as a cheesesteak! If you’re not from Philadelphia, then you’re from someplace near there like south Jersey, Baltimore, or Wilmington. if you’ve ever journeyed to some far off place where people don’t know that Philly has an accent, someone may have thought you talked a little weird even though they didn’t have a clue what accent it was they heard.

That was then…this is now

We found these chairs at the local Goodwill store. $25 for 6 chairs!! Though hubby was skeptical, we brought them home. After repainting them a color called Wheat Grass and recovering the seats… Voila!
The four armless chairs are covered in the wiggly rectangles fabric and the head chairs are wearing the palm trees. I’m digging the combo. What do you think?
