busy, busy

Wow! It’s been a big time down here the past two weeks. Alas, the photos don’t measure up. See, it’s tough to take pictures of a child who’s glued to you. This is the best I could do…

The main items of interest are (in chronological order):

  1. a lovely visit from Mia, Betsy, and Maggie
  2. Liam’s first dip in a big pool (thanks for the fun time Mia and Maggie)
  3. tooth, the first
  4. tooth, the second
  5. * kisses!

Feeding time at the zoo just keeps getting better. It’s a game now. We let the little man taste anything that we’re eating (unless it’s a choking hazard, obviously). Evidently, we have the anti-Mikey. Liam will eat anything. He sampled several items from the Indian buffet (saag paneer was the fan favorite) and chowed on Mexican (twice), digging the tamales, enchiladas in mole, and especially the flan. It’s really fun!

*Liam gave his first kisses. The first person he kissed was that baby in the mirror. The second person he kissed was daddy. [crickets chirping] There is currently no third kiss recipient. Let’s see. Who’s missing from this list? Hmmm. You are correct, sir! Mummy gets jack. For real. Nothing.

not the mama

And other minutiae.

Our Liam is very clear on one thing these days. You are either the mama (me) or not the mama (everyone else) and only the mama will do. Yikes. He’s inconsolable in the mornings as I’m getting ready for work. Poor B tries every trick in the book to no avail. Yesterday it took almost 30 minutes after I left for Liam to settle down. When he is with me, he must be held. must. be. held. He’s happy as can be as long as he’s getting his way, but quick to let you know if things are not as they should be.

Still no teeth, but perhaps that’s a contributing factor. Hopefully this phase won’t last too long. He’s wearing me out.

The boy’s naps are also a moving target. Some days great, some days only in the car. He’s still terrific at night, thank goodness. He’s napping now, but only after an hour of cajoling and 15 minutes of screaming and sobbing. Is it wrong to drink tequila in the morning?

Speaking of tequila, mummy bought her first post-baby bathing suit this week. Oh, the humanity. One of those “miracle suits” made of stainless steel or something. Gone are the days of el-cheapo cute bikinis, which I probably shouldn’t have been wearing anyway. It’s the dawn of the absurdly expensive mommysuit era. Ugh. Sigh. It’s 5:00 somewhere, right?

Back to business. Liam is a fantastic eater. We chop up whatever we’re eating, whenever possible, for him to try. He’s enjoyed Korean (bulgoki), california rolls, bagels, bbq pork, everything pizza, crab cakes, crab and artichoke dip, toast with hummus, and pasta with eggplant, red peppers, and andouille. It’s funny. Now he clamps his mouth shut if we try to give him plain cereal or white rice. Oh, and he’s a big fan of banana nut cheerios, which we allow him to eat whole, Carol Anne. We get to hit all the sample stations at Costco these days.

So, that’s where we are. The cuddle monkey calls. Cheers!

let's go eagles!
let's go eagles!

How fitting. July 4th and the USA Eagles beat Canada in the World Cup Qualifiers.  Mark this down in the baby book as “Liam’s first rugby match”. If you were paying attention, the first half of the game was broadcast on ESPN. The second half, sadly, was preempted by coverage of the Steve McNair incident.

Big fun was had by all, despite the wicked heat.

PS. Soooo close to crawling and teeth…

PPS. August in PA – finalizing details.
